A classic German holiday bread studded with dried fruits, nuts, and marzipan, perfect for festive celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 20 g active dry yeast
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 100 g almonds
  • 200 g butter
  • 100 g candied citrus peel
  • 200 g marzipan
  • 250 ml milk
  • 50 g powdered sugar
  • 150 g raisins
  • 50 ml rum
  • 5 g salt
  • 75 g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1
Soak the raisins in rum for at least one hour.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Step 3
Warm the milk and melt the butter in it. Add to the dry ingredients along with the vanilla extract and mix well.
Step 4
Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, then cover and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour or until doubled in size.
Step 5
After the dough has risen, fold in the soaked raisins, candied citrus peel, and chopped almonds.
Step 6
Roll out the dough into a rectangle and place the marzipan in the center. Fold the dough over to enclose the marzipan.
Step 7
Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
Step 8
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Step 9
Bake the Stollen for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 10
Once baked, brush the Stollen with melted butter and dust with powdered sugar. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
