Delicious almond-filled pastries shaped like bear claws, perfect for a sweet breakfast or a snack.
Directions
Step 1
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 2
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Step 3
Add the yeast mixture and egg to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes.
Step 4
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Step 5
In a medium bowl, combine the almond paste, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Set aside.
Step 6
On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Spread the almond filling evenly over the dough.
Step 7
Fold the dough over the filling, lengthwise, to enclose the filling. Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces.
Step 8
Make 3 to 4 small cuts on one side of each piece to create the 'claws'.
Step 9
Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
Step 10
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Brush the pastries with milk and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
Step 11
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
