A traditional Buche de Noel, or Yule Log, is a classic French dessert made of sponge cake rolled with a rich, decadent filling and decorated to resemble a log. Perfect for holiday celebrations!
Directions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2
In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
Step 3
In another bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar until thick and pale. Add the vanilla extract.
Step 4
Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until well combined.
Step 5
Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
Step 6
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.
Step 7
While the cake is baking, whisk the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
Step 8
Melt the dark chocolate and butter together until smooth and let cool slightly.
Step 9
Once the cake is baked, turn it out onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar.
Step 10
While the cake is still warm, roll it up with the towel inside to form a log. Let it cool completely.
Step 11
Unroll the cooled cake and spread the whipped cream filling evenly over the surface.
Step 12
Roll the cake back up without the towel and place it seam-side down on a serving plate.
Step 13
Spread the melted chocolate mixture over the outside of the log to resemble bark.
Step 14
Decorate as desired and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
