Simple Homemade Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 50 g granulated sugar
  • 120 ml milk
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 30 g unsalted butter
  • 500 ml vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Step 2
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
Step 3
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined to form a dough.
Step 4
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
Step 5
Use a doughnut cutter or two different sized round cutters to cut out doughnut shapes.
Step 6
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 180°C (350°F).
Step 7
Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Step 8
Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Step 9
Once cooled slightly, you can glaze or coat the doughnuts with sugar as desired.
