  • 500 g beef
  • 15 g cornstarch
  • 5 dried red chilies
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon ginger
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 30 ml hoisin sauce
  • 1 onion
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 15 ml rice vinegar
  • 60 ml soy sauce
  • 10 g sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Szechuan peppercorns
  • 30 ml vegetable oil
  • 60 ml water

Directions

Step 1
In a bowl, combine the beef, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well and let marinate for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
Step 3
In the same wok, add the remaining vegetable oil. Add the garlic, ginger, Szechuan peppercorns, and dried red chilies. Stir-fry for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
Step 4
Add the green and red bell peppers and onion to the wok. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
Step 5
Return the beef to the wok. Add the hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and water. Stir well to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
Step 6
Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
