Simple English Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • 250 ml beef stock
  • 50 grams butter
  • 2 carrot
  • 100 ml milk
  • 500 grams minced beef
  • 1 onion
  • 100 grams peas
  • pepper
  • 800 grams potatoes
  • salt
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 200°C (180°C fan).
Step 2
In a large pan, cook the minced beef over medium heat until browned.
Step 3
Add the chopped onion and diced carrots to the pan and cook until softened.
Step 4
Stir in the tomato paste, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, and peas. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Step 5
Meanwhile, cook the potatoes in a pot of boiling water until tender. Drain and mash with butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 6
Transfer the meat mixture to an ovenproof dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
Step 7
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden and the filling is bubbling.
Step 8
Let it cool slightly before serving.
