This recipe guides you through making soft and fluffy Indian Naan bread, perfect for accompanying various dishes or enjoying on its own.
Directions
Step 1
In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, yogurt, milk, and vegetable oil.
Step 3
Mix the ingredients to form a soft dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 4
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 5
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
Step 6
On a floured surface, roll out each ball into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 7
Heat a skillet or tawa over high heat. Place the rolled-out dough on the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes or until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes or until golden brown spots appear.
Step 8
Remove from the skillet and brush with melted butter or ghee if desired. Serve warm.
