Kheer is a traditional Indian dessert made from rice, milk, and sugar, flavored with cardamom and garnished with nuts. It is creamy, aromatic, and perfect for festive occasions or as a sweet treat after meals.
Directions
Step 1
Rinse the basmati rice under running water until the water runs clear.
Step 2
In a heavy-bottomed pan, bring the milk to a boil.
Step 3
Add the rinsed rice to the boiling milk and reduce the heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the rice is soft and the milk has thickened (about 40-45 minutes).
Step 4
Add the sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands to the mixture. Stir well to combine.
Step 5
Continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes until the kheer reaches the desired consistency.
Step 6
In a separate pan, lightly toast the chopped nuts and raisins until they are golden brown. Add them to the kheer.
Step 7
Serve the kheer warm or chilled, garnished with additional nuts if desired.
