Directions
Step 1
Combine milk, cloves, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Heat on low for 5 minutes, then gradually bring to a boil.

In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until light and fluffy.

Slowly whisk hot milk mixture into the eggs, then pour the mixture back into the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.

Remove from heat and let cool for about an hour.

Stir in heavy cream, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. If using, add rum.
