Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, also known as Golabki, are a traditional Polish dish consisting of cabbage leaves stuffed with a savory mixture of meat, rice, and spices, then baked in a tomato sauce.
Directions
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
Step 2
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head into the boiling water. Blanch the cabbage leaves until they are pliable, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and allow to cool.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
Step 4
Carefully separate the cabbage leaves. Place about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto each leaf. Roll the leaf around the filling, tucking in the sides to secure the filling. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
Step 5
In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the rolls, then add the water and sprinkle with sugar.
Step 6
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours.
Step 7
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
