Classic Bangers and Mash

A hearty and traditional British dish featuring savory sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes with a rich onion gravy.

Ingredients

  • 480 ml beef broth
  • 50 g butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 120 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 0.5 tsp pepper
  • 900 g potatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 sausages

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
Step 2
Place sausages on a baking tray and bake for 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
Step 3
While sausages are baking, boil potatoes in a large pot of salted water for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Drain and return to the pot.
Step 4
Mash potatoes with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5
In a large frying pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onion and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
Step 6
Sprinkle flour over onions and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Step 7
Gradually add beef broth to the pan, stirring continuously until gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
Step 8
Serve sausages over mashed potatoes, topped with onion gravy.
