Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Add the minced garlic and chopped onion to the pan. Sauté until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the canned tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix well to combine.

Add the sugar, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to incorporate all the ingredients.
