Season the chicken pieces with 1 teaspoon salt and set aside.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

Add the garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook for 1 minute.

Stir in the ground cumin, ground coriander, ground turmeric, and ground cayenne pepper. Cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
