A hearty and delicious recipe for homemade baked beans made from scratch, perfect for a comforting meal or a side dish.
Directions
Step 1
Rinse and soak the navy beans in water overnight.
Step 2
Drain and rinse the beans, then place them in a large pot and cover with fresh water.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour or until beans are tender. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet, cook the diced bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.

Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

In a large baking dish, combine the cooked beans, bacon, sautéed onion and garlic, tomato sauce, molasses, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, salt, black pepper, and water. Mix well.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 150°C (300°F) for 2 hours.
Step 8
Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes, or until the sauce is thickened.
