A classic Southern side dish, these collard greens are slow-cooked to perfection, resulting in tender leaves infused with rich, smoky flavors. Ideal for family gatherings or as a comforting addition to any meal.
Directions
Step 1
In a large pot, combine the chicken broth and smoked ham hock. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.
Step 2
Add the collard greens, onion, garlic, apple cider vinegar, sugar, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper to the pot.
Step 3
Simmer the mixture, covered, for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the collard greens are tender.
Step 4
Remove the ham hock from the pot, shred the meat, and return it to the pot. Discard the bone.
Step 5
Adjust seasoning as needed and serve hot.
