  • 120 ml boiling water
  • 115 grams butter
  • 1 egg
  • 250 grams flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 160 ml molasses
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 100 grams sugar

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9x9 inch baking pan.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then mix in the molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the boiling water. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
