This Greek Baklava recipe features layers of crispy phyllo dough, filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with a spiced syrup. Perfect for dessert or a special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 150 grams almonds
  • 200 grams butter
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 cloves
  • 150 grams honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 500 grams phyllo dough
  • 300 grams sugar
  • 200 grams walnuts
  • 250 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F).
Step 2
Combine chopped walnuts, almonds, and ground cinnamon in a bowl.
Step 3
Brush a baking dish with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each layer with melted butter.
Step 4
Spread a portion of the nut mixture over the phyllo dough.
Step 5
Continue layering phyllo dough and nut mixture until both are used up, finishing with 8 layers of phyllo dough on top.
Step 6
Cut the baklava into diamond shapes using a sharp knife.
Step 7
Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, until golden and crisp.
Step 8
While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining sugar, water, honey, lemon juice, and cloves in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 9
Remove the cloves and pour the hot syrup over the baked baklava immediately after it comes out of the oven.
Step 10
Allow baklava to cool completely before serving.
