Slow Cooker Carnitas

Delicious and tender pork carnitas cooked to perfection in a slow cooker. Perfect for tacos, burritos, or just by itself.

Ingredients

  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 8 cloves garlic
  • 60 ml lime juice
  • 1 onion
  • 240 ml orange juice
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 2.5 kg pork shoulder
  • 2 tbsp salt

Directions

Step 1
Combine orange juice, lime juice, garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and cumin in a bowl.
Step 2
Place pork shoulder chunks in the slow cooker.
Step 3
Pour the juice mixture over the pork and add the chopped onion and bay leaves.
Step 4
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shredded.
Step 5
Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.
Step 6
For crispy edges, spread the shredded pork on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for a few minutes until the edges are browned and crispy.
Step 7
Serve the carnitas with your favorite toppings and tortillas.
