Step 1
Place the cucumber and onion slices in a large bowl. Sprinkle with salt and stir to combine. Let sit for 1 hour.

Drain and rinse the cucumber and onion slices under cold water. Set aside.

In a large pot, combine sugar, white vinegar, mustard seed, celery seed, and ground turmeric. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.

Add the drained cucumber and onion slices to the pot. Bring back to a boil.

Remove from heat and ladle the pickles and brine into sterilized jars. Seal the jars and let cool to room temperature before refrigerating.
