Classic Gyro Meat

This traditional gyro meat recipe combines seasoned lamb and beef, creating a flavorful and juicy dish perfect for wraps or salads.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 500 g ground lamb
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 165°C (325°F).
Step 2
In a large bowl, mix together the ground lamb, ground beef, onion, garlic, oregano, cumin, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
Step 3
Transfer the meat mixture to a food processor and pulse until the mixture is finely ground and sticks together.
Step 4
Press the meat mixture into a loaf pan, ensuring it is tightly packed.
Step 5
Place the loaf pan in a larger baking dish and fill the baking dish with about 2.5 cm (1 inch) of water to create a water bath.
Step 6
Bake for 60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 74°C (165°F).
Step 7
Remove the meat from the oven and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Then, slice the gyro meat thinly for serving.
