German Spaetzle Dumplings

A traditional German dish, Spaetzle are soft egg noodles or dumplings that can be served as a side or main dish. They are versatile and can be enjoyed with a variety of sauces, meats, or simply with butter and herbs.

Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 60 g butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 120 ml milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 120 ml water

Directions

Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.

In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the milk and water.
Step 3
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until the dough is smooth.
Step 4
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Step 5
Press the dough through a spaetzle maker or a large-holed sieve or colander directly into the boiling water.
Step 6
Cook the spaetzle for 2-3 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
Step 7
Remove the spaetzle with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a bowl.
Step 8
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Step 9
Add the spaetzle to the skillet and cook until they are lightly browned and crispy.
Step 10
Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
