This recipe provides step-by-step instructions to make traditional and delicious homemade tamales, perfect for a family gathering or festive celebration.
Directions
Step 1
Soak the corn husks in a bowl of warm water until soft, about 30 minutes.
Step 2
In a large bowl, beat the lard with a tablespoon of the broth until fluffy.
Step 3
Combine the masa harina, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl; stir into the lard mixture and gradually beat in the broth to form a moist dough.
Step 4
Spread the dough out over the corn husks to a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness. Place one tablespoon of the shredded beef and one teaspoon of the chili sauce in the center. Fold the sides of the husks and the bottom over the filling. Fold the top down.
Step 5
Arrange the tamales in a steamer basket. Steam over boiling water for about 1 hour, until the masa is firm and pulls away from the husk easily.
