Create your own sourdough starter from scratch with just flour and water. This starter can be used as a base for various sourdough bread recipes.
Directions
Step 1
In a large glass or plastic container, mix 120g of whole wheat flour with 120ml of water. Stir until no dry flour remains. Cover loosely with a cloth and let sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
Step 2
After 24 hours, discard about half of the starter mixture. Add 120g of all-purpose flour and 120ml of filtered water to the remaining mixture. Stir well and cover loosely again. Let sit for another 24 hours.
Step 3
Repeat the process of discarding half of the starter and feeding with 120g of all-purpose flour and 120ml of filtered water every 24 hours for the next 5 days.
Step 4
By day 7, the starter should be bubbly and have a tangy aroma. It is now ready to use in your sourdough recipes.
