Ingredients

  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 60 g butter
  • 300 g cheddar cheese
  • 50 g flour
  • 450 g macaroni
  • 500 ml milk
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until the mixture turns light golden.

Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the grated cheddar cheese until it is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Season the cheese sauce with salt and black pepper.

Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and mix until the pasta is evenly coated.

Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish.

Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
