Place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or ovenproof dish in the oven to heat up.

In a blender, combine the flour, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Blend until smooth.

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and add the butter. Swirl to coat the bottom and sides.

Pour the batter into the skillet and immediately return it to the oven.
