Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).

Place sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and mash.

In a large bowl, mix together the mashed sweet potatoes, white sugar, eggs, salt, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Transfer to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, pecans, and softened butter. Mix until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
