Step 1
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.

Stir in the flour and cook for another minute.

Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture has thickened.

Remove from heat and stir in 150 grams of the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.

Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes.

Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.

Sprinkle the remaining 50 grams of shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
