Ingredients

  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 240 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 240 g flour
  • 240 ml milk
  • 1000 ml oil
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tsp salt

Directions

Step 1
Cut the onions into 1/4-inch slices and separate into rings.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 3
Dip the onion rings into the flour mixture until they are all coated; set aside.
Step 4
Whisk the egg and milk into the flour mixture using a fork.
Step 5
Dip the floured rings into the batter to coat, then place on a wire rack to drain until the batter stops dripping.
Step 6
Spread the bread crumbs on a plate and dredge the rings in the crumbs until coated.
Step 7
Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 365°F (185°C).
Step 8
Fry the onion rings a few at a time for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown.
Step 9
Remove the rings and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
