  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 450 g ground beef
  • 2 onion
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

Directions

Step 1
Season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form into 4 equal patties.
Step 2
In a skillet, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Step 3
In the same skillet, cook the beef patties over medium heat until browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Step 4
Butter one side of each slice of rye bread with the softened unsalted butter.
Step 5
Assemble the sandwiches by placing a patty on the unbuttered side of 4 slices of bread. Top each patty with caramelized onions and a slice of Swiss cheese. Place another slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
Step 6
In the same skillet, grill the sandwiches over medium heat until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Step 7
Serve the patty melts hot and enjoy!
