Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Delicious and hearty stuffed cabbage rolls filled with a savory mixture of ground meat, rice, and seasonings, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce. Perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 12 cabbage leaves
  • 240 g cooked rice
  • 1 egg
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 800 ml tomato sauce
  • 240 ml water

Directions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
Step 2
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully add cabbage leaves and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Drain and set aside.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
Step 4
Place about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold in the sides and roll up tightly.
Step 5
In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine tomato sauce, water, sugar, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer.
Step 6
Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in the pot. Spoon some of the tomato sauce over the rolls.
Step 7
Cover and bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours, or until the cabbage is tender and the meat is cooked through.
Step 8
Serve hot, spooning some of the sauce over the cabbage rolls.
