  • 0.5 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 handful fresh basil leaves
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 800 grams whole peeled tomatoes

Directions

Step 1
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
Step 2
Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Step 3
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Step 4
Add the whole peeled tomatoes with their juice, breaking them up with a spoon.

Stir in the sugar, dried oregano, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes.

Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 7
Add the torn basil leaves and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Step 8
Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce to your desired consistency, or leave it chunky if preferred.

Adjust seasoning to taste and serve.
